A portrait shot of a trumpet shaped solid black Wedgwood vase with neo classical floral decorations. The vase has been photographed against a blue background which, depending on your particular device, may or may not resemble the darker of Wedgwood's two blue shades.

Out of focus behind the vase is a blue leather silverware case with a cream silk rose and several white beaded necklaces draped over it.

Wedgwood (established 1759) was named for its founder Josiah Wedgwood. The company became especially known for its jasperware (a matte finish stoneware developed by Josiah in the 1770s). The most readily identifiable pieces are done in the iconic combination of pale blue with white relief decorations.

Jasperware is initially white, but was then stained different colours through additional processes. The very earliest versions were stained through with colour, but this shifted to a dipping process which is the case with the vase pictured. There are a few very small nibbles where the underlying white stoneware is visible.

I'm a day late, but didn't have time to edit yesterday. This is for last week's #AlphabetChallenge #WeekEForEponymous #AlphabetTechPhoto.

Rising out of a wave of bold architecture inspired by Canada’s centennial, the Calgary Tower became an iconic symbol of the ❄️1988 Calgary Winter Olympics ⛷️.

Decades of construction have gradually lifted the skyline, diminishing the once-commanding view. #AlphabetChallenge #WeekEforEponymous

Named for St Bride

Not the one in Lanarkshire of the same name!

I’m not sure that the Gaelic translates as East Kilbride though- anyone able to enlighten me?

Calum’s Road, named after Calum Macleod who single-handedly built a road over a 10 year period on the Isle of Raasay in the Hebrides after the local council refused to help.
He used only a pick, shovel and wheelbarrow- one is shown under the sign. A real hero.

Many things are named after the designer - in this case a Stanier class 8F 2-8-0 Heavy steam locomotive - designed as freight movers but this one is seen in steam at Great Central Railway on a cold, frosty day.
