📊 This paper by Crameri et al. (2020) shows why #color choice in figures matters.

Rainbow 🌈 & red–green 🛑❇️ colormaps distort gradients, create artificial boundaries, & exclude readers with #ColorVision deficiency. They quantify visual error & argue for perceptually uniform, #CVD friendly colormaps👍

A yellow, plastic bead platform shaped like a six-pointed star, filled with unbaked plastic beads. Black outlines. Each of the six points has a different color, with lighter tones in the middle and darker tones further away from the center. Colors clockwise: yellow (at one o'clock), green, blue, purple, red, orange). Bright white in the center.

Did some plastic bead crafting today with my kid. Photos before and after baking. I like how this turned out. Kid was also very helpful with actual color vision.

I'm about to start training my chickens in basic voice commands: 'come on' and 'go to bed'. I use these to mean "follow me" and "go to your run". I know that chickens can respond to operant conditioning, so I wondered if anyone out there has any insights? #chickens #colourvision #colorvision #vision

Our sensory view of reality is always partial. Color is a prime example – we perceive it, but it's a subjective interpretation of physical phenomena, not the full objective truth. #ColorVision 3/7

'Olo' is a brand-new color only ever seen by 5 people Using an experimental technique called "Oz," researchers stimulated the human retina such that people saw a brand-new color.

Wish I could see this

Scientists at UC Berkeley used laser-based "Oz" tech to stimulate M cones, creating "olo" a vivid blue-green color only visible through this method, not on screens.

This apparatus was built for #ColorVision research but can be modified for any #cognitive #touchscreen research. I am currently working on SMARTA 2.0 for my dissertation with improvements on the apparatus.

Any color vision experts on Bluesky? We want to color calibrate some monitors in our lab, but the spectroradiometer we have (Spectrscan PR650) doesn't work with the software we planned to use (Spectrashop 6).

Flying blind - accessibility in the world wide web Do you know how many visually impaired people there are out there? I can tell you: There are roughly 188.5 million people with mild vision impairment, 1043 million have moderate to severe vision impairment, and 36 million people are blind (According to the world health organisation in 2018). When it comes to colour blindness there are approximately 300 million people affected – that’s almost as many people as the entire population of the USA! (According to the Colour Blind Awareness Community) That’s a lot, isn’t it? And a lot of those people also use the web. Not everyone in the same way as most do though. Have you ever used a screen reader? Or heard of the term at all? A screen reader is a tool used to have the content of your screen read out for you. They are usually used by people who have issues reading what’s presented – either because they cannot distinguish between what’s written and the background because of bad contrasts, because fonts that are too small or just because they can not read or see at all. For anyone who is interested how it works there is a lot of material on youtube, like […]
