It went... only okay. The earthiness of the chapatti pairs with mature cheese less-well than the cornflour-sweetness of a tortilla does.

Lime drizzle cake just out of the oven.

A bit worried the loaf tin was too big but its come out OK.
Lime Drizzle. Recipe calls for 1 lemon, I find 3 limes just right for the swap. Plus the pulp from the squeezed limes add more to it.

Mr Therm making an apperance, ad infinitum, on the cover of a c.1960 publicity recipe book. This copy was issued by the North Thames Gas Board whose area covered North London and the surrounding areas. Mr. Therm had been conceived by artist and designer Eric Fraser for the old London based Gas Light & Coke Company in the early 1930s; the use of this jolly little mascot had flourished after his adoption by the wider gas industry, pre- and post-Nationalisation, until he was retired around the time of North Sea Gas.

The cover is dominated by blue and yellow with Mr. Therm, wearing a  chef's hat and with a copy of this cookery book in his hands, in red. The title panel, in yellow is upper left, and the rest of the cover shows a kitchen table with utensils and ingredients. inc. a mixing bowl, a flour sifter, a bottl eof wine, tomatoes, mushrooms and lemons.

So Jamie Oliver is on TV pushing meat through a strainer into a pot of boiling slurry with sticks in it, whilst smashing onions with his fists on the side of a mountain but maybe that's a sport in the Alps I don't know...

Roughly one or two largeish onions and 400g of chopped-up bacon misshapes browned in a frying pan, while the dozen large sausages start cooking at Gas Mark 7 in a large baking tray.

When the bacon & onions have browned a bit, add herbs and pepper, and throw in a handful of plain flour to soak up any moisture. Keep stirring while adding hot water & a cup of beef stock cube water. Add slowly to make sauce smooth, then enough water to make the boiling sauce liquid but not too runny - guess about 500ml.

Pour over the sausages, making sure that the sausages are on top. Turn the sausages over after about 30 mins cooking (browned a bit) so that the other sides can brown. Turn off heat when golden brown.

If the sauce looks too dry at the turning over point, add some more water, or if it looks a bit runny at the end of cooking, you can turn the sausages back over again and give it a bit of a blast at high temp to reduce the sauce. Or you can just remember to use a bit more flour next time.

One of my favourite 'signature' dishes: Greendale Farm sausages (the best ones I've tasted in the UK) in a herby lardon & onion sauce. Yum!
