A very large member of the Antelope family is seen standing at the side of an asphalt road with a sign that says One Lane Road Ahead. There are trees in the background. This Nilgai is a male as established by his two straight horns that look to be approximately 5 or 6 inches long. The males are generally 4 to 5 feet tall at the shoulder with a small head and a large barrel-chested body that slopes to the rear. His legs are very long. The nilgai is mostly brown with a white patch at the throat, white patches visible on the inner thighs in this photo and white and black "socks" just above the hooves.
Happy #Critterday!! From my recent trip to South Texas, I got a better look at a Nilgai at Laguna Atascosa NWR than the last time I was there. I'm including more info in an article in the replies explaining how this invasive species came to S Texas and what it means.
