In retirement, I am very appreciative of Libby and the worlds it opens, and have been reading and listening widely for over two years now (my daughter is a public librarian and made sure I knew about it). But a confession: I didn't make it through Demon Copperfield... (cont'd below)

Update on Hello Beuatiful.
It’s a DNF at 17%.
I was so bored. I will note I don’t often enjoy books about the unfurling of a family’s lives though.
I also found out about a major plot point that happens later on in the story that I have no desire to read about.

The Nautical Chart by Arturo Pérez-Reverte. I gave up on it on page 25. Dull and meandering. #books #booksky #DNF
scale of 1-10 how easily do you #DNF a book?
i’m like a 1, and will power through just about anything. mostly only ditched Les Mis bc i kept falling asleep and the first Harry Potter bc i kept rolling my eyes. and Pale King bc it made me super sad… #booksky
DnF Pg 18, Lol even the most fabulous restaurants have shitty breakrooms. Granted Amet keeps his breakroom pretty organized for his staff. ✨

I didn’t truly #DNF any books in February. I did pause Angel Down to read something lighter but I plan to go back to it. And I barely started a couple of #KidLit #poetry books that ended up not being well suited to reading on kindle. #BookSky

Star Rider by Doris Piserchia.
Ok nope, binning this off. Got bogged down, don't care enough about the characters or where it's going to continue. Shame. Sorry Doris. 📚🪐💙 #scifibooks #sciencefiction #nowreading #dnf
I only have #Goodreads for the social interaction/my friends only track on there despite it being trash. But why the HECK can you not get notified when you get a response to a post you commented on?
Oh and congrats on just now making a #DNF shelf 😒

What a bummer! Carly Reagon is one of my favorite authors but this book was a #DNF for me. I can fly through 50 pages and feel like nothing happened. I didn’t care to find out what happened in the end even though I love a spooky read.
I’m also bummed because I spent $30 on it.

I was 87 pages into Wolf Hour. I was bored as well as grossed out by one of the main characters who had zero likable characteristics (important for me for that kind of book). It was a #DNF.
Now I’m diving in to The Infirmary! I love Carly Reagon!

Two #books in a row that I didn’t finish recently, which is really unusual for me. No judgement on the writers—this is about me, not them. They’re not bad books, and are popular. These are both for a #bookClub I’m in/help run, so I really wanted to finish them but…just can’t.

Stoner by John Williams is about to be a #dnf. It's boring. At the beginning the prose is stark and beautiful. Now he's in this awful marriage, and I see why lots of writing books say ditch the adverbs. The -ly words in his sentences, one after the other. #aita ??
They're so cute...

How to Have That Difficult Conversation by Dr. Henry Cloud and Dr. John Townsend
First #DNF this year. Not a bad #book w/some good advice. Very religious, with Bible verses as supporting evidence on every page, which I tolerated until the authors said research was < Biblical teaching. I’ve had enough of that for one life. Give it to your non-confrontational Christian friends.
I share the books I finish, so I thought I’d share those I #DNF as well.
January 2026 #DNF books:
- To the Lighthouse (Virginia Woolf)
- The Complete Short Stories of Edgar Allan Poe (took me a long time to admit its not for me)
- Invisible Illness (Emily Mendenhall)

I just had to dnf the book I was reading and I feel so vindicated reading other reviews that have the same critique that I did.
It sucks because the premise is good and what I read was promising, I just couldn’t push through

First #DNF of 2026. I got off on the wrong foot with the latest Nobel prize winner. This book is so dense, slow burn and demanding... It'd have taken me months to finish it (or my undivided attention) and I'm a "polyreader" and this was a borrowed book from the library, so... Shame!😳

Ughhhh i really wanted to like this but the writing is just not for me. I don't wanna say bad, but amateurish. The pacing and character choices often felt off. I read every word until halfway through and then just sort of skimed the rest this morning. Like 1/5 ⭐super disappointing tbh #BookSky #DNF
Highlighted text: Had humanity just frozen in its development, like aboriginal when Europeans arrived, overwhelmed by Turtle technological superiority?
“Had humanity just frozen in its development, like aborigines when Europeans arrived…”
and THAT is when I stopped reading.
“It was a different time,“ some might say and I would say to them: yes, it was—1991. Not 1925. Not 1959.

Too many info dumps of pseudoscience and pseudoarchaeology. The absurdities pulled me out of any story being built around them - can't consider characters when you're thinking, "But why would they multiply it by 100? Did they even use base 10?"

Screenshot of my explanation for DNFing on The Storygraph, which reads: Did not finish: 34% The unnecessary and frankly ridiculous subplot with the detectives is what broke me, but the twist being foreshadowed on the back and the painfully slow pacing didn't help.
