Q to #DataCenterSTL developer at town hall: Do you own the former Macy’s site today❓

A: The site is part of the project footprint for the proposed redevelopment, & details on site control & transaction timing will be addressed as the project proceeds through the City’s process.❌

Correct A: NO❗️

Congratulations!

Do you want to try extracting the records that the City of St.Louis Zoning Section is withholding from me regarding the #DataCenterSTL ?

MCE's list needs to include heat management, for example heat capture for onsite power generation or district energy. Hyperscale data centers otherwise output up to a kilowatt per square meter, contributing to heat islands and even hazardous air conditions during heat waves. #datacenterSTL

“I would guess a lot of state legislators don't even realize how much money could be going out the door with a program like this. This isn't something that shows up in the budget, it's just money that no one really knows that much about except for the businesses that are benefitting." #datacenterSTL

Speculative & exploitative nature of #datacenterSTL projects like the Armory:
- Assets are 70% GPUs with 3 year lifespans, can't get bank loans
- 5 yr wait for grid interconnect is why they want Armory site so badly
- Up to 50% of DC capacity built may never be used
- <1% actual user demand is tiny

This #datacenterSTL proposal calls for building a 120 MW facility in the middle of an existing urban heat Island, and all of its power consumed will become heat. They can't prevent hazardous levels of heat (during a heat wave) from crossing property lines. Hearing 3/19.

The city's deliberations on the proposed #datacenterSTL in the Armory district cannot be trusted.

Similar #SunshineSTL requests for zoning records yielded very different results. #3728Market

"While these facilities consume enormous amounts of energy to output often half-baked mimicry of thought and expression, in physical terms, their output is almost exclusively heat.. This is the reality of generative AI data centers"

What’s happening behind closed doors at St. Louis city hall on the Armory data center?

The Building Division/Zoning Section is processing two “zoning only” permit applications for a #DataCenterSTL at #3728Market & #3852Market

Greenstreet owes 4 years property taxes totaling over $2.7 M on 3728.

The recording linked shows the BOA spent a whopping 2 1/2 minutes to introduce and vote down Alder Browning's BB172 for a #datacenterSTL moratorium. @fox2now.bsky.social plainly lies saying there was "hours of debate." There absolutely should have been, however.

The text of the Fox 2 Now report on Friday’s St. Louis BOA meeting has is fundamentally flawed. There was no debate on #DataCenterSTL

IIRC, at least once in a previous BOA session, alders voted to move back the final date for introduction of legislation.

Prepare for additional application(s) in the coming months to construct/renovate a facility for #DataCenterSTL

I’m not a fan of the BOA’s habit of suspending its rules for the purpose of introducing legislation from the floor.

Given that 95% + of rule suspension motions for this purpose pass comfortably, it smacks of hypocrisy for alders to vote against Browning’s motion

Hypocrisy at the St. Louis BOA today: The motion to suspend the rules for introducing #BOAbb171* was defeated 8 - 7.
* Pause for #DataCenterSTL

It is extremely rare for such a vote to fail.

Caveat: I’m opposed to suspending BOA rules for the purpose of introducing legislation from the floor.

The Fucking Sun

The Fucking Sun

The heat density of a data center, the amount of heat released per unit area, relates to how severe of a heat island it creates. And holy shit the Armory project at 3728 Market is uniquely insane. Contact your alder to demand a moratorium on this nonsense. #datacenterSTL
