Today we celebrate the birthday of David Whitaker, born today in 1928. An English television writer and novelist, Whitaker worked on the early years of the science-fiction TV series Doctor Who, serving as the programme's first story editor. #DavidWhitaker
she is the only companion between Polly and Adric who Holmes didn't create). All that aside, even 'classic' 6+ parters almost always drag for me and only #DavidWhitaker was capable of reliably writing exceptions. (3/3)
And of course #StevenMoffat's episode this year was also indebted to Holmes. Along with #DavidWhitaker, these are the four writers on whose imaginations the majority of the weight of Doctor Who rests, which is not to dismiss the countless other contributers. But they are the giants.
