2 decimal coins from 1971: A 2 NEW PENCE coin, and a ½ NEW PENNY coin.
The musical film "Half a Sixpence" was released in 1967 - the same year in which the last pre-decimal coins 🪙 were minted.
"Half of Two and a Half new pence" didn't have quite the same ring to it, but that didn't stop #decimalisation 55 years ago today.

Ah those halcyon days remember my Nan (Nain in 🏴 as she was) used to give me a sixpence for sweets when I saw her & we always got a postal order for birthday or Christmas but I don’t recall much on #Decimalday but it was probably a thing at my primary school 🤷🏼♂️
I remember #DecimalDay well. I was at College, the queue in the canteen at morning break was huge - canteen staff trying to add up in ‘new’ money!
I don't remember #DecimalDay but I do remember when we moved house in 1974 we found a pre-decimal coin under the fridge.
I remember #DecimalDay. I went up to the shops and bought a creme egg with my new decimal coins.
An infographic titled "Compositions of UK Coins" details the metallic makeup of British currency. The £2 coin features a bi-metal design with a copper-zinc-nickel outer ring and a copper-nickel inner circle. The £1 coin shows pre-2017 compositions and notes the 2017 shift to a twelve-sided bi-metal design. The 50p and 20p coins are copper-nickel alloys, with the 50p having been resized in 1997. The 10p, 5p, 2p, and 1p coins all transitioned from copper-based alloys to plated steel in 2011 and 1992.
This day in 1971 was #DecimalDay, when UK currency switched from the old pounds, shillings and pence to the current decimal coinage. This graphic examines the compositions of the coins currently in circulation and how they've changed over the years: www.compoundchem.com/2014/03/27/t...
