1925 dictionary entry for "telephone" with an illustration.
Today is #DictionaryDay, so I celebrate by sharing my treasured Webster's New International from 1925, when "television" wasn't an entry yet and telephones looked strikingly different. I'm told my grandmother worked for @merriam-webster.com in Springfield, MA the '20s. Not sure what she did there.

Happy #DictionaryDay! 📖
Sir Thomas Elyot's Latin-English dictionary (1538), was the first book to be titled a "dictionary". It was a pioneering work based on a humanistic approach, introducing many words into English. 📜

Happy Dictionary Day! On this day 267 years ago, Noah Webster–lexicographer, language reformer, and Father of the American Dictionary–was born.
When was the last time you opened a dictionary to learn a new word, and what was it?

Photo of a shelf of dictionaries from large ones to tiny ones - mostly English, some French, Italian, and Irish. Battered from use.
Happy #DictionaryDay! Here's my dictionary shelf (tidied for pic as it's usually in use) - featuring my first dictionary (New Collins Compact), my mum's crossword dictionary, and others I've gathered along the way. Online dictionaries rock, but nothing beats a dictionary shelf 📚
