I'm not sure if it's the fact that I'm at the level cap, but in the final stages the difficulty in #DigitalDevilStory shifts from combat to mapping. This level was an absolute pain which left me constantly disoriented. #jrpg #retrogaming

Some game designer was feeling sadistic when he designed Infini Palace 3F. You have to run around the entire level in a big circle 8 times to fully investigate the 8x8 grid of one-way doors in the corner- which turns out to contain NOTHING. 😡 🤜 💥 😵 #digitaldevilstory #jrpg #retrogaming

So I cheated a little and looked up some maps, and it turns out I was wrong about there being inaccessible areas in the Sea of Flames. Those areas were sections of the Marzuka Corridors- I had misunderstood how the two stages connected. #digitaldevilstory #jrpg #retrogaming

Sea of Fire is not as hard as previous levels in terms of combat, but it offers obnoxious enemies like this guy, who you have to run from because fighting burns too much HP. Or the Hydras, which seem to spawn 7 of these guys after dying. #digitaldevilstory #jrpg #retrogaming 🧵

After Hecate, another difficulty spike. Now the enemies are spongy, and magic no longer does the damage needed. An old man gave me a lead on super gear, but better summons are a bigger priority, and not easy; nothing's recruitable and fusion reqs are too high. #DigitalDevilStory #jrpg #retrogame
