Kallichore (moon) - Wikipedia

A few more details about this irregular, retrograde moon of Jupiter, including a Hubble image from November 2025. The moon's name comes from Callichore, one of the Muses and one of Zeus's daughters in Greek mythology. Maybe #ESAJuice can take a look in 2031? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kallich...

Before a flyby can be properly considered, the #ESAJuice team need to improve knowledge of the moon's position. Stellar occultations are a great way to do that. The current occultation prediction is here:

Any Sydney-based astronomers here? A team at Andalucia is coordinating an occultation campaign for one of Jupiter's small (2-5km) irregular moons, #Kallichore (a candidate for an #ESAJuice flyby) that'll be passing in front of a star at ~12:20UT on March 18th.

Heading home after a superb week at the Les Houches Winter School for #ESAJuice. I gave lectures about Jupiter and JWST, but I learned so much from all the other lecturers, from magnetospheres, to satellites, and exoplanet connections. What a stunningly beautiful place to wake up to each morning.

When you look at that bright point of light this evening, think of the Jovian fleet. #Juno (2016) is there right now, peering beneath the cloudy veil. #EuropaClipper (2030) and #ESAJuice (2031) are sailing through interplanetary space with a mission to explore Jupiter's ocean moons. (Credit: ESA)

3I Atlas: It’s Not Tumbling. It’s "Locked In." (What Hubble Missed But JUICE Detected) Is it a rock, or is it… maneuvering? 🛸✨ When the Hubble Space Telescope first snapped a photo of the interstellar object 3I Atlas, it looked deceptively calm—a stable core with a smooth cloud. But when we looked closer, the story changed. In this episode, we expose the data discrepancy that has astronomers scratching their heads. While Hubble showed us a "sleeping" object, the ESA’s JUICE probe detected something entirely different: chaotic tails of plasma and dust that shouldn't be there. We dive deep into the newly enhanced image filters that reveal the shocking truth hidden in the static: 3I Atlas isn't just floating; it’s exhibiting a "locked-in" rotational dynamic with precise, non-random jets. We analyze: - The Data War: Why did Hubble see a fuzzball while JUICE saw a complex structure? - The "Anti-Tail" Mystery: What are those two distinct jets doing, and why are they firing in a pattern? - Artificial vs. Natural: Does this precise rotation suggest an internal engine, or just weird physics? If you thought Oumuamua was weird, wait until you see the geometry of this visitor. We are peeling back the layers of the most mysterious object in our solar system. Topics: 3I Atlas, Interstellar Object, Hubble Images, JUICE Probe, Space Anomalies, Astronomy News, Plasma Physics, Alien Theory. 🎧 Tune in now to see what the naked eye missed. Are we looking at a comet or a craft? Drop your theory in the comments or review section! ☄️ Our #ESAJuice team couldn't wait until February, when they will receive data on #3IATLAS from the mission's science instruments.

So they downloaded just a quarter of an image from its navigation camera to get a surprise sneak preview.

Our #ESAJuice meeting is over, so a quick moment for some sightseeing. This is the Gänseliesel "goose girl" statue in Göttingen... apparently it's tradition for newly minted PhDs to climb the fountain, kiss the statue, and present a bunch of flowers...

Although it's not an easy journey (involving planes, trains, & automobiles), I finally made it to @mpsgoettingen.bsky.social for the #ESAJuice Science Team Meeting (our 26th!). Personal first for me: I've never been to Max Planck Institute for Solar System Research and this bit of Germany before.

#ESAJuice is a unique & bold mission.

It will be the first spacecraft to orbit a moon other than our own, and the first to change orbit from another planet to one of its moons.

Its observations are bound to enable breakthrough scientific results from European scientists and beyond.
