There is a grim poetry to the video below, which captures the destruction of the offices of the Department of Legal Affairs. The demolition of these buildings is both a material violation and a symbolic assault on the rule of law. These are the offices where international lawyers have toiled for decades, day after day, to uphold international humanitarian law and defend the human rights of Palestinians. I am proud to stand on their shoulders and to count myself among them. Our commitment to accountability for violations against humanitarian actors must be stronger than ever.
