Since the Hamas massacres of Israeli civilians on October 7, 2023, the Israeli government has broken every moral rule and international norm. Its army has entered Gaza and bombed civilians. The Israeli government has accelerated settlement on the West Bank, invaded southern Lebanon and bombed Syria.
Hezbollah and Iran responded by launching missiles against Israeli cities protected by air defense. Their response to the slaughter of innocents is to slaughter more innocents.
Diplomatically, the United States was the only country on the Security Council to veto the UN intervention.
When journalists, humorists or politicians denounce exactions, they are systematically accused of being either Zionist or anti-Semitic. This blocks discussions on protecting the innocent.
The week the world tried to stop Gaza spinning out of control – Jason Burke – The Guardian: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2023/oct/22/the-week-the-world-tried-to-stop-gaza-spinning-out-of-control
The Israeli government has an electorate that wanted to assert itself and turn the tables. The people who voted for Hamas wanted to change things. They did not vote for genocide. A large proportion of civilians in Israel and Gaza did not understand that this was the path to violence. They did not have a good moral compass.
The West’s unconditional support for the Israelis also lacks a moral compass. Western states are incapable of having a fair definition of what is acceptable and what is not. They are unable to condemn the Israelis when they bomb Gaza, whereas they condemn the Russians when they bomb Mariupol. In both cases, there is a regular army bombing civilians. Moreover, France Insoumise refuses to denounce the actions of Hamas as terrorism in order to please its electorate. It no longer has a moral compass.
There is an important need to promote universal morality. We no longer dare talk about morality in the West because we are conditioned by thousands of years of confusing morality and religion.…
