An ekg of defibrillation/shock
Uncoordinated/random waves of depolarizing heart muscle cells make the heart quiver rather than contracting in a normal fashion. Blood cant flow when the heart muscle is quivering.
Delivering a shock makes every cell depolarize at the exact same time. This gives heart muscle cells a chance to recover and contract in a coordinated fashion again.
That’s right, it literally CAUSES a flatline, eliminating the chaos to calm the sea, reset the domino board, or whatever visual metaphor helps you understand it.
If a patient is ALREADY in a flatline, no electrical activity is happening. Shocking it again and causing a flatline isnt going to do anything, it’s already flst. All it does is interrupt lifesaving chest compressions trying to get some blood and oxygen flowing back to the heart muscle cells to give them a chance of polarizing again.

Heres what shocking V-Fib looks like
Uncoordinated electrical contractions get shocked, slapping them all down in a FLATLINE, so a normal organized rhythm can reset
Thats why you CANT SHOCK A FLATLINE. Its ALREADY flat
