It was a quiet month for photography, but I found these squabbling Common Pheasants (Phasianus colchicus). They were too busy to be scared, so finally managed to snap some close-ups. They are remarkably beautiful! Enjoy!

Went on a morning walk in de Schammer, it was a lot more cloudy than I expected, but when there was a little bit of sun, this juvenile ring-necked pheasant walked by in the grass.

Ein männlicher Fasan steht aufrecht zwischen hohen Gräsern auf einer Wiese. Sein Kopf und Hals leuchten in kräftigem Blau mit metallischem Schimmer, während um die Augen leuchtend rote Hautpartien sichtbar sind. Der Schnabel ist hell und kräftig gebaut. Das Gefieder am Körper zeigt ein prächtiges Muster aus bronzefarbenen und kupfrigen Tönen mit dunklen Säumen an den Federn. Der Hintergrund ist unscharf gehalten und zeigt eine sanfte Landschaft.
Ein männlicher Fasan mit ausgebreitetem, langem Schwanz bewegt sich durch niedriges Gras. Der Kopf zeigt die charakteristisch rote Gesichtspartie um die Augen, während Hals und Kopf dunkel gefärbt sind. Das Brustgefieder schimmert in warmen Kupfer- und Goldtönen mit einem markanten schuppigen Muster. Der lange Schwanz ist gestreift und wird elegant nach oben getragen. Die Umgebung besteht aus trockenem Gras und ist in warmes, gedämpftes Licht getaucht.
Ein weiblicher Fasan liegt entspannt im kurzen Gras einer Wiese. Ihr Gefieder ist in unauffälligen Braun- und Beigetönen gehalten, mit einem komplexen Muster aus dunklen Flecken und hellen Säumen, das perfekt zur Tarnung dient. Der Kopf ist klein und rundlich, mit einem geraden, hellen Schnabel. Das gesamte Erscheinungsbild wirkt deutlich schlichter als beim männlichen Fasan, was typisch für den Geschlechtsdimorphismus dieser Art ist.
Meist werden ja Fotos von männlichen Fasanen (Phasianus colchicus) gezeigt, deshalb zeige ich hier gerne auch einmal ein Weibchen (Bild 3).

Ein farbenprächtiger männlicher Fasan mit schwarzem Kopf, roten Augenflecken und ornamentalem braunem Gefieder bei der Nahrungssuche in hohem Gras und natürlicher Vegetation. Er schaut den Betrachter direkt an, was etwas teuflisch aussieht.
Irgendwie sieht man Fasane (Phasianus colchicus) meist von der Seite. So Aug in Auge mit einem #Fasan sieht der Gute fast ein wenig diabolisch aus.

Pheasant (Phasianus colchicus m.) standing in a field. It has a bright orange body with white patches, a dark blue neck with a white band separating the head from the body and a red face. It also has a very characteristic long tail.
Two pheasants in a field, walking away from the camera, farther ahead in front is the male and on the left and closer to the camera is the female. The female is much more camouflaged whereas the stature of the males is almost instantly recognizable.
