She's the "tweetest" gal around. Unlike the bright red males, females are a more subtle grayish-tan or pale brown, with warm red accents on their wings, tail, and crest. It's a "cardinal rule" of birdwatching to know the difference! Both males and females have a distinctive orange-red beak and a dark mask around the face, though the female's mask is often smaller and more subtle. She's not "beak-ing" any rules of style!

male Long-tailed Duck (Clangula hyemalis). This species is a medium-sized sea duck that breeds in the Arctic tundra and migrates south to winter along northern coastlines and the Great Lakes. The male in winter plumage is predominantly white with brownish-black markings and distinctive elongated central tail feathers, which give the bird its name. Known for their exceptional diving ability, they can feed at depths exceeding 60 meters (about 200 feet). Their scientific name, Clangula hyemalis, translates to "Noisy Winter Duck" due to their talkative nature.

The water is a bit chilly, but this duck doesn't seem to be f-eather-ed by the cold. #Birds 🪶🦉🌿🪶🦆🦢🪿🍁

a russet-tailed raptor, banking with brio, A Mississauga maven in aerial stereo, Past high rises and mall signs, a scarlet silhouette, a "Port Credit" to nature, you won't soon forget! He see's a small snack near the Mississauga City Hall clock, A feathered falcon of the stock. He's not just "on the fly", he is the flyest thing in view, Putting on a hawkwardly good show just for me and you! He gives not a wing tip for your human critiques, For the "Square One" of hunting is high-flyin techniques. Soaring with talent and a serious lack of shame, a brilliant red-tailed pundit in the soaring game!
