A commission of Callum Point - the main character of my story "From the Sea Fret". Drawn by Marcel aka @yourdeadprince.bsky.social.
The character has light tan and is covered in freckles. He has pale brown eyes that are
prone to squinting, and he’s clean shaven.
His mousy brown hair is unkempt and swoops around the midpoint of his neck. His hair is usually hidden
beneath a black flat cap. When not wearing a hat, there’s a patch of white hair above his right eyebrow.
An oval birthmark peaks out from his hairline.
He wears a thick cream knitted turtleneck sweater
In the picture, he's holding a rope and standing in a cloud of fog.

Please please please go commission him!! They were so excellent to work with.

From the Sea Fret

A queer transman moves to a dead-end fishing town only to find it full of semi-mad townsfolk, monstrous fish, and an ever-present fog that whispers to him.

(I love elevator pitches sm)

Outlined text over a dark blue ocean. The horizon is obscured by fog.
The text reads: From the Sea Fret.
While the coffee machine was warming up, I did my T-shot. There was a rebellious comfort that came from being on HRT. Like flipping off God before running head-first into the open arms of a sin.
There were moments where I was so relieved to be who I was. Other times, though, it was a bruise of a reminder.
I could never forget how easily Kahorn had said ‘transgender’. I tried the word in my mouth, forcing my tongue to form the syllables and working my throat to make the noises. It didn’t sound right; it didn’t feel right. As though I shouldn’t be saying it, an almost-slur.
‘Transgender’ meant something different. Someone to be hated. Someone who was hated for a reason. Because why else would they be hated? They had done something wrong.
Desperately, I didn’t want to be trans. I didn’t want to be hated. I just wanted to be Callum.

In honour of #TransAwarenessWeek, I wanted to share this snippet of Callum's complicated feelings around being trans. Part of the story is about him accepting his trans identity.

Just HAD to share this little snippet.

Yet again, Callum is a mirror of the person I was in my early transition/pre-t, and I feel that the flashbacks are a great portrayal of his inner world.

I haven't done a #WipSnips in a while, and this word made me spoiled for choice.

There's a lot of running in "From the Sea Fret", both metaphorically and physically. I did have another snippet that I loved, but this one narrowly won over in the end.

No links, but I'm currently querying an adult queer horror called "From the Sea Fret".

I honestly just really love the story, and I talk about it whenever I can because it means a lot to me. I'm super proud of what it's become, and I'm excited to share it.

I do actually have the word 'monster', but I liked this snippet more so I opted for 'creatures'.

Happy Halloween!

I don't have the word 'blood-curdling', so I'm going to substitute for 'scream'.

There's a lot of moments in "From the Sea Fret" in which Callum struggles with the horrifying reality he finds himself in.

Art you say?!

Well, well, well, here's some STUNNING commissions I got from the lovely @saintsbeware.bsky.social and @heavenlyystar.bsky.social

This is the main character of my story "From the Sea Fret", Callum Point. I love him dearly

I very rarely talk about the side characters in "From the Sea Fret", however my favourite would be Tegan Pruitt. She's the daughter of the town's pastor, and sorta the belle of the town.

(Yes the use of 'pastor' is intentional)

Been kinda silent about "From the Sea Fret" updates because I've been on my querying game 💪no news on that front, but hopefully soon.

I yearn for this bad boy to be trad published (one day it shall happen)

Pretty much any moody picture of the ocean reminds me of "From the Sea Fret", but this was the first one I saw that made me really think 'THAT is the vibe I'm going for'

This snippet comes from my favourite chapter, and one of my favourite conversations that Callum has with a side character. I'm not going to post the whole thing, because spoilers, but it meant a lot to write this scene.

Cute lil writing update:

1) Still querying "From the Sea Fret" - I aim to share more snippets, but I'm being very choosey because I don't want to spoil any of the good bits.

2) Slowly writing the vampire/werewolf story - I've got 5 chapters down, and it's looking good.

Outlined text over a dark blue ocean. The horizon is obscured by fog.
The text reads: From the Sea Fret. We were getting closer into the town proper, and the bus driver kept shifting in his seat. I felt sorry for him; it would be a long drive back. He was muttering something to himself, and the bus slowed down to a crawl. Glancing out my window, I realised what was making him uncomfortable.
People stared. Children stopped playing, conversations ended, and everyone was looking. My mouth went dry as the townsfolk watched us pass, and I could feel the hairs on the back of my neck stand on edge.
“Every damn time,” The bus driver shivered, “This place gives me the fuckin’ willies.” I couldn’t tell if he was talking to himself, or meant to include me. I didn’t answer, I was glued to my window.

The people of Perne have a strange way of welcoming Callum Point to their community.

This isn't the strangest thing that Callum encounters in 'From the Sea Fret' though, it's just the beginning.

Here's a two-part passage, introducing the setting for "From the Sea Fret".
Perne is a dead-end fishing town, at the very end of the road, with a fog on the horizon. I loved writing it

I'd say it's a tie between the visuals and how the character feels about said visuals. Where they feel they stand in that place.

For example, in "From the Sea Fret" Callum (the MC) is almost always longing for/leaning towards/looking out to the foggy ocean.

Hello! I'm Milo (he/xe).

Currently I'm querying "From the Sea Fret" - an oceanside cosmic horror novel.
I'm also making eyes at a story idea I've had for a few weeks now, and slowly making my way through a redraft of an old novella.

The text reads: From the Sea Fret. Callum Point is a queer transman with a complicated past. He’s haunted by all that happened to him, and he’s eager to leave it all behind.
He moves to Perne to live life on his terms. He’s hoping that the small fishing town will give him the respite he craves.
What he finds instead is a town rife with secrecy. The people are strange, and unwelcoming. However, the thing that keeps Callum up at night is the ocean.
In Perne, it’s always foggy. Worse, there’s always a thick band of mist obscuring the horizon.
One day, Callum makes a discovery that catapults him down a path he can’t come back from. But maybe that’s just the thing that will help him escape his past.

'From the Sea Fret' was written in a frenzied state of transmasc anger.

I cracked open memories from my early transition, and mixed it with what I'm seeing happen today.

It's desperate, it's agonizing, and full of ugly feelings.
