A Goshawk is a large, powerful bird of prey often referred to as the "phantom of the forest" due to its stealthy nature. It is known for its incredible speed and agility, able to weave through dense woods while hunting. They are large hawks, with females being significantly larger than males, often reaching the size of a buzzard. They have a striking appearance with a dark, slate-grey back and wings. Their breast is a lighter grey or white, featuring fine, horizontal dark stripes or barring's. A key feature is a bold, white "eyebrow" stripe that contrasts with a dark patch behind the eye. Their eyes are often a striking, intense orange-red in adults. Younger birds are different in colour, with brown backs and streaky, buff-coloured breasts. They are fast and agile, frequently seen flying low and weaving through trees. Their flight is characterized by a "slow flap – slow flap – straight glide" motion. They have broad wings and a long tail, which helps them navigate through the forest. They are highly skilled at manoeuvring through branches at high speeds. Their call is described as a high-pitched "ki ki ki ki ki ki". They prefer to live in dense woodlands and forests, where they hunt for smaller birds and mammals.
