What Survives the Noise Mourning in the Age of Outrage — September 7th - 13th, 2025

A week of noise and silence: essays on Charlie Kirk’s murder, the theft of mourning, and a father’s courage. Balanced by Maggie B.’s quiet defiance and Emma’s letter to Grandad in Holding On.

The Lament of Aisle Seven: A Rite Aid Eulogy The nostalgic piece reflects on the closure of a beloved local Rite Aid, emphasizing its role as a crucial neighborhood hub providing essential items and personal connections. With rising prices and changing inventory, the store's decline evokes a sense of loss for community ties and convenience, leaving a noticeable void in daily life.

The corner store is gone, and I wasn’t ready. This is a eulogy for Rite Aid, Aisle Seven, and all the little stores that quietly hold our lives together—until they don’t. #CornerStore #RiteAid #Gettysburg #GriefAndMemory #FieldNotes #CommunityCare #DreamspaceDispatch

A cinematic image of two gleaming, polished wooden rocking chairs sitting side by side in the center of a decaying, dust-covered living room. Cracked walls and warped wooden floors surround them in silent disrepair. Through a large, smeared picture window behind the chairs, a desolate suburban neighborhood lies in ruin beneath a heavy, overcast sky. The stark contrast between the chairs' warmth and the surrounding desolation evokes a profound sense of grief, memory, and enduring love amid loss.

An empty chair in a sunlit room, with dust motes visible in the light beams and a haiku: now it’s just a space | memory becomes a hole|where feelings once lived

An empty chair in a sunlit room, with dust motes visible in the light beams and a haiku: now it’s just a space | memory becomes a hole|where feelings once lived

The hollow after grief recedes. The quiet after someone's gone. These spaces aren't truly empty—they hold the imprint of what was, like shells echo the sea.

Part of healing isn't filling these spaces, but learning to honour them.

Post image Post image Post image As I was
Making coffee
This morning,
I had the thought
"I need to remember
To check in
With Dad."
He died
Last Tuesday,
And it only took
Until Monday
To open a gap
Between
Grief and memory.
As the thought
Ricocheted
Through my head,
My fingers
Went numb,
Holding the hot coffee
Cup in my hands,
When my stepmother's panicked voice
Echoed in my thoughts,
Interrupting
My momentary scheduling
Attempt.
