Hickson Compact Group 87 (HCG 87), a small group of galaxies gravitationally interacting and causing bursts of star formation. The image shows a large edge-on spiral galaxy, an elliptical galaxy, and a spiral galaxy. Foreground stars from our own galaxy are also visible. Studying HCG 87 provides insights into galaxy formation and evolution.

Stunning Hubble Space Telescope image of HCG 90, a Hickson Compact Group of three interacting galaxies. A spiral galaxy is distorted by the gravitational pull of two elliptical galaxies, triggering intense star formation. This galactic interaction, located 100 million light-years away in Piscis Austrinus, will eventually result in a single larger galaxy.
