A family of six mushrooms against a log with some orange leaves below. They are all different heights and it kind of looks like a family photo.

Some brown beech leaves, with their distinctive striped patterns. There a couple of tiny yellow leaves too (don't know what they are).

What at first looks like a ring of dog poo is actually a pair of brown snails mating. I find snails particularly gross to look at normally (perhaps because they do look like small turds!) but the slimy semen sac left after this was even more gross than usual! - it can just be seen in the middle in this photo).

An avenue of small redwoods (only 71 years old). There are some autumnal ferns at the base of the trees, a brown path covered with needles and leaves, and some fog in the distance.

I love this avenue or Wellingtonia (sequoiadendron giganteum or giant redwoods).

They were planted in 1952 by Mary Wellesley who'd bought the woodland to rescue it from neglect, and then gifted it to the forestry commission in 1986.

Another lonesome mushroom. The forest floor is littered with fallen leaves, but when I stopped to look closer I couldn't believe how many of these tiny little mushrooms were peeking out between the leaves.

There are a number of these weirdly-shaped beech trees in the woodlands around Berkhamsted. Does anyone have any idea how/why they would've grown like this? Would they have been trained?

Still think that fly agaric are the coolest of the mushrooms. Found this one in the same spot as some others seen a week ago, and loved the way it was decaying.

A large tree centre left with some more on the right hand side going into the distance. The big trees are hemlock (I think). There are some ferns on the ground turning orange and some orange leaves visible to the right behind the tree.

Not very autumnal yet in this area, but some beautiful trees to be revisited. There was the tiniest hint of mist in the distance; hoping for more!

Porcelain mushrooms at sunset, backlit from the light behind. There are about 5 visible mushrooms with distinctive gills. The mushrooms are actually white but look peachy-orange in the sunset light.

Pretty glad I headed back up to the woods for sunset...
