A large dim spiral galaxy behind a rich starfield

A large dim spiral galaxy behind a rich starfield

Managed to shoot the Hidden Galaxy through the aurora.

A mere 11 million light years away, IC 342 is heavily obscured by dust in the Milky Way. Otherwise, Wikipedia claims it would be visible to the naked eye [citation needed].

IC 342 The Hidden Galaxy - telescope processed image with Moon and Sky Light Filter with phone enhancement. A beautiful, face-on spiral galaxy \approx 11 million light years away. It's nicknamed the "Hidden Galaxy" because the dust and stars of the Milky Way's disk heavily obscure our view.

IC 342 The Hidden Galaxy - unprocessed image with Moon and Sky Light Filter. If IC 342 weren't hidden behind the dust and gas of our own Milky Way, it would be one of the brightest galaxies visible in the night sky and possibly visible to the naked eye.

Did not notice till this morning that I observed #IC342 #TheHiddenGalaxy again. Don’t mind I did. This time though I used my phone to enhance the processed image as much as it could. #seestar #S50 #space #astronomy #amateur

IC 342 The Hidden Galaxy - telescope processed image. The Hidden Galaxy is a large, face-on spiral near the Milky Way's core. Our galaxy's dust and gas obscure it, making it hard to see despite its size.

IC 342 The Hidden Galaxy - unprocessed image. Though called the "Hidden Galaxy," it's so large it would be one of the brightest in the night sky and appear half to two-thirds the size of the full moon if not for our own Milky Way's dust.

I have been posting images of this same object from the s50. Here is the Odyssey Pro’s observation of #IC342 #TheHiddenGalaxy. #unistellar #odysseypro #space #astronomy #amateur

IC342 The Hidden Galaxy - telescope processed image with Moon and Sky Light Filter and enhanced with phone software. IC 342 is "The Hidden Galaxy," a beautiful, face-on spiral similar to the Milky Way, yet dimmed and obscured by the dust in our own galaxy's plane.

Decided to have a longer observation at #IC342 #TheHiddenGalaxy. I also used the “enhance” feature on my phone to bring out the most details possible for the #galaxy. #seestar #S50 #space #astronomy #amateur

IC 342 The Hidden Galaxy - unprocessed image. It is a large, face-on spiral galaxy—a close look-alike of the Milky Way—that would be visible to the naked eye if not for our galaxy's obscuring dust.

A stunning telescopic image of IC 342, a large spiral galaxy partially obscured by dust and gas clouds within our own Milky Way galaxy. The image reveals its spiral arms, blue star clusters, and pink star-forming regions, hinting at recent bursts of stellar activity. Located in the constellation Camelopardalis, IC 342 is a relatively close neighbor at 10 million light-years away.
