STATEMENT January 7, 2026 We, the Executive Board of the Redlands Area Democratic Club, call upon our duly elected California representatives in the Senate and House to take all possible and immediate steps to hinder, slow, and—with the tools on hand—stop the illegal actions of the current administration. We realize that Democrats are the minority party in both bodies of Congress. Nevertheless, we are not helpless. Politics as we once knew them in the US are gone, and pretending that a return to the past is still around the corner if we are measured and say the magic words is delusional. Also, another social media post or tweet (for those still on the child sexual abuse materials-energized platform known as X) or skeet is insufficient. Nor are public statements with words such as “troubled,” even when “very” is used in front of them, adequate. The American people need to see our electeds fighting for our democracy and our rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. And that includes freedom from starting World War III. We are calling on you to immediately (in the House) draw up articles of impeachment and (in the Senate) support Democrats in the House for doing so by your voices and by your presence as a caucus on the steps of the U.S. Capitol. Take control of the national conversation. Make vulnerable Republicans uncomfortable. Support Americans who are peacefully getting out on the streets in towns and cities large and small, in both red states and blue states. In South Korea, the members of their legislature literally scaled walls to get into their chamber and stop an authoritarian takeover. The Democrats in the US Congress are not remotely approaching that level of commitment. And, yes, Republicans took the same oath to the US Constitution and should join you. That the vast majority refuse to do so is destroying our constitutional republic. January 6, 2021 is ongoing. November is too late. We need action now. Anything less is appeasement.
