Last week, some #INCSTEP members participated in the XXI Iberian Entomology Congress.

Our partner institutions #INCSTEP together house >9.4K specimens belonging to 36 of the 38 recognised species in our territory! 🌍

The top species are B. #terrestris 🥇 and #pascuorum 🥈, with >2,000 specimens each! However, B. #flavidus and #gerstaeckeri are absent from our collection... 🫙

Now, let's unveil the secret life of the Colletidae family with @alexnunez23.bsky.social!

The genus Colletes is one of the target taxa of the project #INCSTEP! Also known as cellophane bees, this genus smooth the walls of their nests with a cellophane-like secretion by using their mouthparts 😉.

Once again we meet the people behind #INCSTEP!

Today is the time of Marina González, a young biologist and MS in zoology associated to the entomological collection of the MNCN-CSIC 🏛️ in Madrid.

Her work is mainly focused on the Hesperiidae family! 🦋

Today we meet Leopoldo Castro! 🐝

He is a former secondary school teacher, expert in several Hymenoptera taxa (e.g. Bombinae, Eumeninae), focused on faunistic, geographical and taxonomic studies 👨🏻‍🏫🏫

His main task for #INCSTEP is the revision of #Bombus specimens! 🔬

Last Saturday was Darwin's & Wallace's Night at @mncn-csic.bsky.social, and the #INCSTEP project couldn't miss out! 🙌

Visitors were taught how to identify Iberian #Xylocopa species, informed about the project's aims and warned about the importance of NHCs for pollinator conservation 🐝🛡️🏛️

Entomological collections are sustained by all those involved in their study and management. From #INCSTEP @tettris.eu we want to give them voice 🗣️, so we will publish a series of short interviews to introduce some of these people linked to the project.

Last January 10, the #INCSTEP consortium celebrated its project mid-term meeting! 👥🔈

Representatives of the five institutions that make up the consortium attended the encounter held by the Museu de la Universitat de València d'Història Natural 🏛️ at the Eduard Boscà scientific library of the @uv.es

Syrphids like this species –and other non-syrphid flies– are important pollinators, often neglected! ⚠️

Much remains to be done on their taxonomy and biogeography, although our knowledge of them has improved! 📈🔬
