Had an untreated wood post from previous project so have chopped it up and made a few solitary bee hotels from the pieces. Different hole sizes hopefully means lots of species using them. Will fix them to fence posts that are sheltered and get lots of sun #insectsky #naturesky #gardensky

Wooden two chambered bumblebee nesting box with zinc lid
Just ordered a bumble bee nesting box for the garden (see picture). Will be staining it with bee safe stain. Just wondering if anyone has experience of these and what nesting material they use. Was thinking of using wood wool and dried moss. Any suggestions? #naturesky #gardensky #beesky #insectsky
The discarded head part of a caterpillar after molting or pupating is called the head capsule or face cap. It's the hard, outer part of the head that a caterpillar sheds when it molts to grow larger. The face cap looks like a small, sometimes dark mask or helmet that is shed with the rest of the skin and is typically eaten by the caterpillar for nutrients. It is the "face" from the previous growth stage, and a new face emerges underneath before it is discarded. Caterpillars go through this process multiple times as they grow. This particular face cap was discarded during pupation.
