An Irish Book I discovered at a bookshop event.

I picked up #TheGhostLimb by @clairemitchell.bsky.social at the #DromoreBookFestival - organised by the legendary @bridgebooksdromore.bsky.social. Claire was joined onstage by @lindaervine.bsky.social that night.

#SpeirGorm #SpéirGhorm #IrishBookWeek #Day7 📚💙 #BookSky

My next Irish book is yet to be decided - though, with the week ahead, #Dracula by #BramStoker is one of the contenders. (I miss these Penguin editions).

Stoker married Florence Balcombe in 1878. Oscar Wilde also had his eye on her.

Today's #IrishBookWeek prompt is: Share an Irish book you are going to read next📚☘

Going for a classic next week for Halloween: Sheridan Le Fanu (1814-1873). "Pre-dating Dracula by twenty-six years, Carmilla is the original vampire story, steeped in sapphic sexual tension and gothic romance."

A warm cream background with a small photo of author Paddy Donnelly, and the cover of his work Badger Books. A white text box with dark blue text reads: "Bookshops are very special and magical places to me. One of my absolute favourite bookshops to visit is Halfway Up the Stairs in Greystones. I'm always amazing at the personal service their knowledgeable staff give to their customers. I've been there a few times to paint on their front window; I had the pleasure of eavesdropping as their staff chat with both children and grown-ups, and deliver amazingly custom reading recommendations. When you write and illustrate picture books, you usually populate them with little details from your life that are important to you. As Halfway Up the Stairs have been so supportive to me in my career, I managed to slip the bookshop into the background of an illustration in Badger Books."

#IrishBookWeek | Day 7: Share an Irish Book you are going to read next

Next on our reading list is For and Against a United Ireland by journalists Fintan O’Toole and Sam McBride. The prospect of Irish unification is now stronger than ever since partition in 1921.

#IrishBookWeek is a fab excuse to shine the light on one of our Irish illustrators - Andy Hamilton.

We (and teachers/children) love his illustrations because they’re so full of attitude i.e. perfect for our fully decodable Reading Stars Phonics books (also full of attitude!).

Author @oonaf.bsky.social's This Interim Time (@lilliputpress.bsky.social) is a poignant meditation on memory, family, and the brief windows of life we share with those we love.

This #IrishBookWeek, Oona joins us to share some of her favourite books about grief.

A book set in #NorthernIreland

Call My Brother Back, by Michael McLaverty. A writer who probably isn't as well known as he deserves to be. The book opens on Rathlin, though the bulk of the story takes place in Belfast.

Today's #IrishBookWeek prompt is: Share a book set in Northern Ireland📚☘

The fragmentary nature of the Evangelical Protestant community in the early '90s might not be an obvious backdrop for a gripping novel but The Raptures was pitch-perfect, absolutely adored it.
