Several singing Chiffchaffs on my regular local route through Jacksons and Shulland Woods. Also Bluebells starting to flower, Common Twayblade poking up leaves, plus a singing Yellowhammer & a calling Marsh Tit along the way. #KentNature #KentBirds

My morning constitutional took me through the parkland at Doddington Place. Heard my first Fieldfares of the autumn. Plus Redwing, Green & Great Spotted Woodpeckers, Nuthatch, Goldcrest, etc. Very pleasant. #KentNature #KentBirds

A postcard, part-covered by a mock rail ticket - "Come and catch crabs at Whitstable" - the ticket saying "I bought this postcard to use in my talk on the rails of north and east Kent"

Being on a boat all day Tues meant a captive audience to test out bits of new talk (I've been 'polishing a third' ever since). 😉

Everything now set for Tues' trial run on 'The rails of north and east Kent':

Still Chiffchaffs galore tonight at Sandwich Bay ~ the sun-kissed hedgerows near the Obs alive with movement as a dozen Chiffs (& a couple of Willow Warblers) sallied on & off the branches for food. A real treat to see so many migrant passerines in one spot.

An epic last 90 minutes of the birding day at Sandwich. After a tantalising pallid-looking Swift flew WNW w/Commons, watching Restharrow Scrape produced 11 Cattle Egrets off to roost, followed by c14 Glossy Ibis in from the NNE at 1925, dropping WNW of the Obs 🙂

A sunny Saturday saw us wander the Sandwich estate & the RSPB reserve at Worth. Highlight was the appearance of a White Stork that flew in front of us & plonked itself down, totally unconcerned, by a busy tractor and trailer. Doubtless some Knepp-otism here...

... the Crake showed nicely for maybe half an hour or more ~ in the open throughout almost ~ & took me right back to happy memories of my 1st one at Skewjack in August 1984. High quality bird this. Nearby, a smart Cattle Egret & Whinchat too.

A fun trip to Kent for @linnetincley.bsky.social & I ~ everything started off nicely on Thursday evening when we arrived at SBBO & nipped along to New Downs to enjoy the snazzy Spotted Crake that's been around a week or so now. Really enjoyed this characterful bird...

So while taking many pictures of the Red-footed Falcon at Dengemarsh this morning, this Bittern flew past, circled, then dropped into the reeds off to the left of the ramp.
