Lovely views of 2 redpoll ,flock of siskin with gold,green &chaffinch lots of chiffys singing ,5 bullfinch,2 parakeet,great white egret , 2 raven ,2 buzzard,2 kestrel,2 little grebe,2 coot and moorhens on the ponds ,great-tailed grackle pre roost

But today was a Gull Fest on the patch #patchbirding. One of the Godinton fields by the Great Chart Cricket Pitch had been spread with manure, attracting hundreds of Gulls. Lots of Black-headed & Commons, 2 LBBs, Herrings and best of all, 4 adult Mediterranean Gulls. Patch year ✅. #71 for #PWC2026.

Yesterday’s #patchbirding walk was uneventful but the drake Shoveler was still at the Hothfield Waterfall Lake with 2 Teal & a pair of Grey Wagtails. At the Flood Storage Reservoir another Grey Wagtail, C Snipe, 3 Canada Geese, 2 Stonechats, 4 Yellowhammers & 3 Reed Buntings.

Murky #patchbirding 200+ Avocet, 10 Grey Plover, 90 Golden Plover, Ringo’s back on nest sites, Jack Snipe, 70+ Snipe (my highest count in ages!), Com Sand, 3 GWE, 5 Chiffchaff, 8+ Cetti’s, 2 Stonechat, Tree Sparrow, 2 Rock Pipit, 4 Siskin.

Yeah, Glaucous Gulls are great but the real #patchgold today at Girdle Ness was this Coot on the St Fittick's wetlands. Only my second ever record here and perhaps only the fourth or fifth ever daytime record.

The 3rd calendar year Glaucous Gull was back in Aberdeen Harbour this morning, demolishing mussels along the shore below the Girdle Ness allotments.

Transition from winter to spring underway at the patch in Riogordo. Winter visitors are gradually disappearing and the first house martins arriving. 23 species seen today. Notable were Blue Rock Thrush and 2 Rock Sparrows. Surprised to see a cormorant fly overhead.

#swinemoor this morning was a bit grey and foggy. 8 Whooper Swan the highlight. Snipe numbers rising, c20 Pintail present and duck numbers still high Wigeon, teal, Shoveler, Gadwall, Mallard and Shelduck continue on site. #eastyorksbirding #patchbirding

First frog-spawn of the year but then no more as a Grey heron patrolled the pond all week, catching the frogs.

Redwing, Siskin plus Pink-footed geese flying over. Finishing the week with the first Chiffchaff of the year.

Dawn #patchbirding White fronted Goose, Water Rail, 150+ Avocet, 220 Golden Plover, Green Sand, 2 GWE, 4 Chiffchaff, 6+ Cetti’s, 6 Stonechat, 4 Tree Sparrow and finally caught up with a/the Water Pipit. Slightly disappointed not to find any early migrants yet….soon 🤞

I met 2 lads who’d driven up from Hertfordshire today , to try and get a 💩 sample , as they got a sample from the other 2 uk grackles , but they had no luck sadly .

The long awaited owls returned to the #patchbirding list last month. Both Short-eared and Barn Owl. Neither of which had been seen in over a year. And can't forget the 80 feeding White-fronts either! Very lucky to see them in such numbers.
