Starmer's speech took every accusation levelled against Labour from both the Left and Right and calmly dismantled them via a speech focused on the importance of gov't in protecting and improving people's lives and a direct rejection of the laissez faire Conservative approach.

Starmer is clearly persuaded that people want certainty more than they want hope but it’s depressing to hear him characterise asylum grants as a bitter pill that we’ll have to swallow in pursuit of controlled migration. Would a little positivity really hurt? #LabourConference24

Interesting passage in Keir Starmer’s speech, feels like it’s the bit that gets to the heart of their political economy - valuing dynamic markets but a strong advocacy of the role of ‘decisive government’ in managing (or at times ‘controlling’) them. #LabourConference24
Jimmy Carter was already on the way out when he gave his so-called "malaise" speech in 1979. Starmer is starting out with a sober equivalent. I hope there's going to be some good news also. #LabourConference24
