'Sound is no longer heard but felt as pressure, a column of air hammered into the moss, shaking the marrow of the volcanic wall.'
This is what the book does with waterfalls. Starts with the physics. Ends with the marrow.

A scenic view of Ullswater, England's second largest lake in the Lake District, Cumbria, England. It is near the northern end of the lake looking south. On a sunny and bright but cold spring day in March. The sky is bright blue with the only clouds on the far horizon behind the mountains. The steel grey lake is fairly calm with some gentle ripples from the waves. To the left is the pebbled lakeshore with two large bare trees close to the waters edge. The stumps of two dead trees are further to the right. In the distance the lake is surrounded by trees. Behind this are some of the Eastern Fells, including Helvellyn which is the third highest mountain in England.

A close up of a European Robin proudly perched on the branch of a Holly bush. Taken near the lakeshore on a cold day at Keswick, Cumbria, England. It is in a side profile, standing upright on the branch and facing to the left of the picture. It has an orange-red face and breast, dark eye, brown cap, upper feathers and tail, and a white-grey body. Brown skinny legs and feet grip around the green tree branch. Its body feathers are fluffed up against the cold which contributes to its slightly round shape. The background is full of green Holly leaves, green and brown branches.
Alan's #BirdOfTheDay today is #SongBirds any songbird and the alternative is #PerfectlyPerched any bird perched.

This image captures a rainbow arching over a rural road in a scenic countryside setting. At Caldbeck, Cumbria, England on a changeable Spring day. A faint, wide-arched rainbow is visible against a blue sky mixed with clouds. The scene features a narrow country road flanked by a hawthorn hedge on the left and a traditional dry stone wall on the right, typical of rural landscapes. The background shows distant rolling hills and a small cluster of buildings.
