Six cancers in Wales have a five-year survival rate of under 20%.
That should stop us in our tracks.

Lung. Pancreatic. Liver. Brain. Oesophageal. Stomach.

We need focused action on the cancers with the worst outcomes.

The world's first breath test for pancreatic cancer, led by Professor George Hannah through the Vapour Study could revolutionise earlier diagnosis and save thousands of lives.

Let's #closetheresearchgap to support more pioneering research like this.

Huge thanks to @clivejonesmp.bsky.social for sponsoring yesterday's debate in Westminster, and for calling for faster diagnosis for #LessSurvivableCancers. Early detection and faster diagnosis are vital to saving lives and driving better outcomes for those affected by these deadly cancers.

Innovations like this show the potential to shift the dial, but only if paired with urgent investment in earlier detection and faster diagnosis as outlined in the most recent report of the APPG on Less Survivable Cancers.

The report includes new analysis of existing data which shows that if early diagnosis were doubled across these six cancers, an additional 7,500 lives could be saved every year.

Take our #LessSurvivableCancers research survey. From 2016 - 2021, these cancers got less than half the funding of other common cancers, despite a similar number of deaths. Whether or not you've joined a clinical trial or study, we want to hear from you. 👇

It's #LessSurvivableCancers week raising awareness of the 6 less survivable common cancers: lung, liver, brain, oesophageal, pancreatic & stomach. Sadly, they account for 40% of all cancer deaths. LSC is calling govt to prioritise early detection, research funding & dev of treatment options.

Brain tumours, like all the #LessSurvivableCancers, have not seen the required improvements in outcomes for years.

Jeremy Hunt: “While survival rates for most cancers are at record levels, the prognosis for people with brain tumours has scarcely improved in over a generation.”
