Osprey nest 1 at #LochArkaig Pine Forest was visited by this buzzard for 40 mins on Monday. 🌧️ The weather has been so grim there hasn't been enough solar power to run the cameras very much of late. Hopefully that will change soon. 🙏 Osprey season is only a few weeks away. 📆

Scots pines have always been special to WTS; this research from @ruth-j-mitchell.bsky.social of @hutton.ac.uk suggests the Scots pine alone supports nearly 1,600 separate species, incl 227 that rely on it entirely. Article featuring our restoration efforts at #LochArkaig says more ⬇️

Great to see @scottishwater.bsky.social trialling tree seeding by drone in difficult to access areas at #Talla. We've used a similar strategy to at #LochArkaig and at a #WoodlandTrust site in the hills around Bodmin too. Look forward to seeing the results 👉

Loch Arkaig in Lochaber. The image shows the near shoreline of the loch leading from the bottom right of the frame to the middle left. The loch merges with the grassy shoreline and there’s the base of a stone wall running parallel to it, passing a lone tree. The far shore of the loch, in the upper right of the frame is hilly and there are traces of snow on some of the hills.
The superbly remote Loch Arkaig in Lochaber, said to be the hiding place of a hoard of gold coins landed by the French at Loch nan Uamh in late April 1746 in support of the (by then already failed) Jacobite rising. More pics and info: www.undiscoveredscot...

Wildlife cameraman (and Strictly legend!) Hamza Yassin was at Loch Arkaig Pine Forest earlier in the year in a bid to film elusive wild boar.

Great news that osprey Aurora, who teamed up with Garry on Nest 1 at #LochArkaig this summer, has been spotted at Dorset on her migration. Super pics with her tag number visible. Bon Voyage Aurora! We hope to see you back in Lochaber next year.
#Aurora536 was ringed at Loch Fleet National Nature Reserve in Sutherland in 2022, only chick in the nest. She showed up at #LochArkaig on 18th April this year, paired up with #GarryLV0 on @wtscotsocial.bsky.social Nest One. We hope very much to see them back next year raising chicks.

Massive thanks and congratulations to Morag Hughes of Fort William who swam 11 miles along the length of #LochArkaig today, raising funds for our restoration of the forest. Morag completed her big swim in 10 hours, 6 minutes and 37 seconds.🧵 1/2
