My Canada #loghome built in 2017 for just $256K. Today, the same kit runs about $315K + $55K for windows, mainly due to rising costs of aluminum,soffit, fascia, metal roofing, and insulation. But 8”x10” white pine logs are still $14/lin.ft. in Eastern Quebec. Time for #CMHC to regulate these builds!

MI Dream Home: McBain log home is 'a true northern Michigan wilderness escape' A northern Michigan log home that's up for sale may be a breath of fresh air for a house hunter who likes to hunt. Or fish. Or canoe. It has 30 acres of land, river access, state land access and a pond. The property is located at 3900 East Meyering Road near South Richards and Streif roads in the city of McBain. McBain is in Missaukee County about 24 miles southeast of Cadillac and about 206 miles northwest of Detroit. The more than 2,400-square-foot log home, built in 2004, has four bedrooms and four bathrooms. Johnny Crane, an agent with the Crane Group and Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices-Michigan Real Estate in Traverse City, said the property is a paradise for outdoor sports fans. Crane listed the home along with colleague Matt Crane. "It's a true log home set on 30 remote acres," Johnny Crane said. " It also has significant frontage along the Clam River, which has great fishing. And you can canoe to the mouth of the Muskegon River. "The property also connects to state land," he said. "That provides endless hunting opportunities." It also has "a peaceful pond that attracts abundant wildlife, making this an ideal escape for those who appreciate the great outdoors," he added. Crane said he thinks one of the home's most attractive features is the craftsmanship that went into building it. Inside, the meticulously designed living space blends rustic charm with modern comfort, he added. But log home with this home doesn't mean inelegant or gauche. Crane said it has unique touches and details, including handcrafted wooden blinds in the kitchen and bathrooms, heated floors on the main level, and radiant heat upstairs. The abundant natural light that beams through the home's windows also helps give its interior an inviting atmosphere. Visitors arrive at the home via a sprawling circular driveway that cuts through the wooded lot. The home's front door sits under an awning with columns resembling small trees. On the other side, the foyer opens to log and wood plank walls and a granite tile floor. Straight ahead from the foyer, the spacious, two-story living room has a vaulted ceiling and faces the pond and the surrounding grounds. The primary bedroom is to the right while the kitchen, dining room and a grand log staircase that leads upstairs and to the lower level are on the left. In addition to its en suite bathroom, the primary bedroom has a private balcony. Upstairs, there are two bedrooms, each with bathrooms and a loft space that opens to the living room below. Downstairs, the home's lower level is partially finished. "It has walkout access and a spacious living area that's ready for a new owner's finishing touches," Crane said. It also has an additional large bedroom that's ideal for guests, he said. Another selling point, he said, is the home is being offered partially furnished, allowing for easy move-in. The agent said the home would be perfect for an avid outdoorsman who loves to hunt and fish or a family looking for a private retreat that's a few hours from Metro Detroit.
