Soil mesofauna promote mineral-associated organic matter formation under ambient and future climates The diverse life strategies of soil fauna may substantially affect the persistence of carbon (C) in soil. However, experimental evidence linking soil …

Un(der)explored links between plant diversity and particulate and mineral-associated organic matter in soil - Nature Communications Plant-diversity effects on particulate and mineral-associated organic matter in soil remain underexplored. The authors propose that elucidating the mechanisms underlying these effects can help explain...

‼️In case you missed our article published during the summer break:

The mechanisms underlying #plant-diversity effects on #soil #C remain elusive.

We argue that #POM + #MAOM are key to disentangling these effects.

PAPER 🚨 Organic matter associated with reactive #soil minerals (aka #MAOM) is often assumed to be the most persistence terrestrial #carbon pool. Here we introduce a new mechanistic framework for the vulnerability of this vast #carbon reservoir to disruption in the #rhizosphere. rdcu.be/euik0

Sparked by a question by @mud-maik.bsky.social: 2014 I published a study that nicely demonstrats how much particulate organic matter #POM can be contained in a small size fraction <6.3µm!!!, many people now bluntly call mineral-associated organic matter #MAOM, check it out: tinyurl.com/POMvsMAOM

Nice 😍 #soil #research paper from Lancaster Environment Centre (UK):

#MAOM formation (= C stabilization) is primarily driven by soil mineralogy.

Low C:N ☘️litter shows less(!) efficient MAOM formation, due to lower microbial #CUE.

High C:N 🌾litter priming more #SOM.

Diachronic assessment of soil organic C and N dynamics under long-term no-till cropping systems in the tropical upland of Cambodia Abstract. No-till (NT) cropping systems have been proposed as a strategy to combat soil degradation by storing soil organic carbon (SOC) and total nitrogen (TN). We quantified the impacts of NT croppi...
