Thinking back on a class that reminded me why I teach math:

💭 Every student can do rigorous math.
💭 Every student belongs at the math table.

When students feel capable and included, everything changes.

Equity in math means meeting students where they are and celebrating their strengths.

It’s not about who is “good at math”— it’s about helping every student grow as a mathematical thinker.

Together, we shift the narrative.

A beige-background infographic titled “IDENTITY WHEEL ACTIVITY (n = 13)”. The content is arranged in a 2 × 2 grid outlined by thin black lines.
• Top-left cell: heading “What did you learn about yourself?” followed by a short paragraph that says participants recognised areas of privilege, confronted vulnerability, and reflected on personal growth.
• Top-right cell: heading “What did you learn about your classmates?” with a paragraph noting shared experiences, diverse perspectives, and appreciation for openness.
• Bottom-left cell: heading “How would you define community?” with a paragraph describing community in terms of support, shared values, collaboration, and understanding.
• Bottom-right cell: heading “How did this activity contribute to the beginning of creating a community?” with a paragraph explaining that students found commonalities, built trust, and connected through shared identities.

Numbering Race, which I developed nearly 10 years ago, is actually part of the Core Mathematics Curriculum that Sherry holds in such high esteem and is one of the best intro statistics courses at #UTAustin hands down! #BlackStudiesMath #Blackademics #MathforAll #Blacksky #DataScience
