Known for his dynamic and visually arresting paintings, Francis creates works charged with movement, sound, and rhythm. His practice combines intense sequences of colour within tightly gridded structures, generating a compelling tension between order and chaos.
There is an agitation in Francis’s work - a pulse, a vibration - as if the forms and colours are trying to break free, bleed into one another, or shift beyond their boundaries. His longstanding engagement with science provides fertile ground for…”

The rain stopped for just long enough to fully take in this special example of Neolithic art ♡

It's found inside Cairn T in Loughcrew, an area known as 'Sliabh na Cailleach' or 'Mountain of the Witch' & is 5000 years old

Several St. Brigid's crosses sitting on one of the large stones of the cairn at Loughcrew in Co. Meath, Ireland. The crosses have been blown and scattered by the wind and rain at the top of this exposed, windswept hill. The rocks behind are the base of the cairn.

Votive offerings of St. Brigid's crosses on the cairn at Loughcrew (see previous post). Presumably left here on the recent Imbolc/St. Brigid's Day (Feb 1).

A wide angle view of a large neolithic passage tomb and burial mound alongside an ancient stone circle.

The site is estimated to be 5,000 to 6,000 years old. The burial mound contains a central passage that aligns with the sun during the spring and autumnal equinox. The cairn is quite large, I'd guess 20 metres across and 5 to 10 metres high. It is surrounded by several stone circles, each 5 to 10 metres in diameter. On this morning the fog added to the visit completely hiding all other signs of life from the surrounding area. It was a moving experience I have to say.

I had a great visit to Loughcrew passage tomb in Co. Meath this past Monday. Pictured here along with one of several stone circles that surround the tomb. The ancient site combined with the dense fog created a timeless atmosphere.
