Letztlich war es Michael Spyres als Stolzing, der den Ausschlag gab, dieses Jahr zu den Meistersingern von Nürnberg nach Bayreuth zu fahren. Matthias Davids hat dort eine Meistersinger-Inszenierung aufgesetzt, die das komplette Gegenteil zur geschichtsträchtigen Deutung von Barry Kosky ist. Natürlich hatte ich die Premiere im Fernsehen mit Daniele Gatti als Dirigent und Georg Zeppenfeld als Sachs gesehen. Am Fernsehen fand ich die gänzlich geschichtsfreie Deutung zu belanglos und habe nach dem ersten Aufzug ausgeschaltet. Bei dieser Aufführung sollte es ganz anders sein, denn Axel Kober sprang ein. Auch der Hans Sachs war nicht Georg Zeppenfeld, sondern Michael Volle. Diese kurzfristige Besetzungsänderung wegen Krankheit, sollte sich als Glücksfall erweisen. Hat man doch mit Axel Kober einen Mann mit Bayreuth-Erfahrung gewählt, der mit den akustischen Gegebenheiten des Hauses hervorragend zurecht gekommen ist. So ließ er den Sängern viel Raum, deren Stimmen sich wundervoll über das Orchester entfalten konnten. Erst im dritten Akt zur Festwiese wurde es richtig laut, was dann auch wieder passt. Überhaupt – die Festwiese, die in vielen Inszenierung als Massenaufmarsch inszeniert wird, gerät beim Davids zu einem bunten Happening mit Merkel, Gottschalk, Milva und Loriot im Doppelpack. Es ist ein wildes Gewimmel mit Becks-Angels, einer Party in Weiß und man muss sich fragen, warum das immer als Aufmarsch inszeniert werden muss. Eine aufblasbare große, bunte Kuh bildet das Dach für Strohballen und ein buntes Happening der Zunftstände. Aber zurück zum Anfang dieses langen, etwas unbequemen Abend in Reihe 30 mit eingeschränkter Beinfreiheit.
