今日はアレクサンダー・フォン・ツェムリンスキーの命日。1942年没、享年70。
最近は時折演奏会で作品が取り上げられることもあるが、一般的にはあまり知られていないと言うべきか。アルマ・シントラーと恋仲になったのに振られてしまい、マーラーと結婚したことで名前が出る方が多いかも知れない。その時にアルマや周囲からツェムリンスキーの容姿について悪く言われたことが本人を痛く傷つけたと言われている。
後に「こびと（王女の誕生日）」という歌劇を書いているが、醜い姿のこびとが王女たちに笑われた挙句、鏡で自分の姿を見て悲しみのあまりに死んでしまう筋書きに、アルマに振られたツェムリンスキーの姿を重ねて […]
