I struggled to find something for the opposites theme, then remembered that I painted a small series of abstracts based on opposing hues (naphthol red and cobalt teal) and constructed using bands of paint running in opposing directions. Specifically, this abstract is composed of vertical bands of cobalt teal mixed with varying amounts of medium, overlain with horizontal strips of naphthol red, again of varying strengths. The gaps between bands - most vividly in the lower right - show up as vibrant pinks, and elsewhere as ghostly ribbons hovering above the blues. I no longer have the original, just this poor quality photo.

An abstract composition dominated by naphthol red rectangles in the lower third and cobalt teal in the upper third. A jumble of blocks reaching into the sky towards a red sun occupies the left side. The ruined edifice of the ziggurat is anchored into the ground with expressive linear marks, and the Euphrates river is represented on the right.
For the #BlueSkyArtShow, #layers of #strata and #history inspired this #AbstractLandscape painting of the #Etemenanki #Ziggurat (now in ruins) in #AncientBabylon by the #Euphrates river.
