TORONTO — In a surprise move, Ontario Premier Doug Ford follows up his decision to outlaw speed cameras with proposal to remove speed limits on all Ontario roads. “Nobody likes speed limits,” said the Premier. “Why are we criminalizing decent Ontario citizens who are just trying to get to work or school or stores? A case-in-point of his ongoing battle with municipalities is his desire to ban bike lanes, which study after study have shown improve traffic flow and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Premier Ford argues they actually hinder traffic flow and represent a physical barrier to storefronts across all cities. Escalating his battle with Ontario cities, the Premier has warned he may ban sidewalks. “People have come to me complaining that the sidewalks not only limit the size of their prized front lawns, but they also block street parking on narrow urban streets,” said the Premier. “Our studies suggest that improving access to cars will eliminate the need for people to walk, which will improve pedestrian safety and eliminate hit-and-run incidents.” Premier Ford has not yet presented a timeline for his proposed changes. Unnamed sources suggest it will come right after his conversion of Nathan Philips Square to a spa.
