Just to the right of centre a group of very pale yellow flowers with darker yellow centres with orange lines radiating from the centre of the flower. Delighted that ODS on behalf of @oxfordcitycouncil.bsky.social are creating a couple of new "scrapes" at Rock Edge. Turf and topsoil removed down to original limestone. We'll spread native wildflower seeds and transform this rather dull amenity grassland into a riot of colour. #OX3 #Headington 🌍

Despite heavy rain this morning we continued to rake cut material on part of our #SSSI onto drag sheets to build up the soft eroded peat banks of the Lye Brook.

A smallish bird with a slate grey back, and black wing tips edged in white. Underneath it's mostly bright yellow with some cream in the middle. It has a long dark tail edges with white. There's a white streak on its head just above the eye. It's standing in shallow water with mud, small twigs and a couple of leaves, facing to the right, and has just lifted its left leg out of the water. Below it is a perfect reflection, even including the eye and white eye stripe.

Our scything team have done a great job in cutting large parts of both the east and west SSSI. Lots still to do though, and we've now got a huge backlog of cut material waiting to be taken off the fen.

With four scythers on site this morning, we're making great progress with clearing the fen. We cut a block on the east side of the Valley, and a larger area on the west side (pictured below). Lots more work for our rakers though... 😀

Our seed collection continues. This time from two of our commoner plants, Angelica and Purple Loosestrife. Both are firm favourites with bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. The seed will be spread in areas of the fen we're still restoring.

It's perched on a piece of dried brown grass, facing to the right of the photo. Its black eye is visible, as are its orange tipped black and white striped antennae. Its legs are also striped. The background is a messy mix of mostly green blades of grass.

water pressure in baptismal pool on border of #OX3 / #OX4 was not great, a dribble really, we started at 0800 and finished at 1115 a little over half full. The water was sanctified and a young brother this day in the city of #Oxford joined the fellowship of believers. A great day for the Church

We occasionally come across some very odd things when we disturb the tipped banks of the Valley. This morning we found this rather nice embossed "Benbow's Dog Mixture" bottle, that "Purifies the blood, produces a smooth and healthy appearance in their coats" allegedly!

Just to the right of the end of the boardwalk, a bright yellow Keep Left traffic sign with a white arrow pointing to seven o'clock on a blue circle.
