A black bird with white stripe on its wings and belly perches on the tip of a pine tree in the early morning light. It's long black tail drops down behind it, while in it's beak it holds at least three small male pine cones.

Last June: A black-billed magpie with the male cones off the pine tree in its beak. I have no idea if it eats the cones whole, or pecks them apart to get at the pollen or ... what?
But with a magnificent tail like that, who cares?

A lone Great Blue Heron stands, in shallow water, in the center of the frame and facing to the right side of the image. It's early morning and the bird is silhouetted, his reflection seen in the water below him. The reflection of trees on the water span the top third of the frame.
A Scissor-tailed Flycatcher sits on a strand of barbed wire, his long tail hanging. The bird is facing to his right. A blurry tree is behind him, over his right wing.

For today’s #BirdOfTheDay #LongTails theme I have a REALLY long tailed Fork-tailed Flycatcher sitting on a wire in Argentina. #Wildlife #Nature #EastCoastKin #Photography
A bird with a gray head and chest, brown patterned wings and warm coral flanks is sitting on a notch of bare branches with its dramatically long tail trailing behind. The tail is slightly longer than its entire body. The background is blurred greenery and gray skies.

A smallish bird with a slate grey back, and black wing tips edged in white. Underneath it's mostly bright yellow with some cream in the middle. It has a long dark tail edges with white. There's a white streak on its head just above the eye. It's standing in shallow water with mud, small twigs and a couple of leaves, facing to the right, and has just lifted its left leg out of the water. Below it is a perfect reflection, even including the eye and white eye stripe.
Today's #BirdOfTheDay theme is #Reflections with the alternative of #LongTails. How about this Grey Wagtail (Motacilla cinerea) that manages to combine both?
A regular visitor to Oxford's Lye Valley, it seems to love the mud round the ponds.

Taken in March 2020 this beautiful little black and white bird is foraging for insects on the roof of an extension to our house. It's tail is as long as it's body and it does indeed wag it !

Female Mallard and a Pied Wagtail... details in Alt Text
A close up in a side profile of a male Mallard duck gliding on the water of Easedale Tarn near Grasmere, Cumbria. He is facing the left of the picture. He has a bottle green head, white collar, yellow bill, maroon-brown chest, grey-brown wings, pale grey body, curly black feathers just above the tail. The duck is reflected in the calm water, with a few gentle ripples around him.

Photo taken at Forest Farm Nature Reserve - Cardiff - South Wales A drake mallard is a large, male duck with vibrant green iridescent feathers on its head that shine and feel smooth to the touch, like polished metal. It has a dark, ringed neck, a white collar, and a warm, brown chest and body that is soft and feels like velvet or a smooth, furry cloth. The drake's bill is dull yellow-orange, like a ripe tangerine, and its feet and legs are a contrasting, slightly sticky orange-red. When it moves, you may feel a vibration through the ground as it waddles, and if it swims, the water may feel cool and slick against your hand. The sound of its quack is loud and distinct, like a trumpet, though this may not be audible to some individuals with hearing impairments.

Today's #BirdOfTheDay theme is #Reflections and the alternative is #LongTails. I am going with the alternative long tails and this Blue Crane. #birdphotography #birds
A white peacock perches gracefully on a thick tree branch, captured in profile. Its head turns to the right while its beautiful, white tail feathers (train) cascade from the center of the composition toward the bottom left corner. Crowning its head is a distinctive crest of delicate feathers. The bird's long, elegant neck flows into a smooth, rounded body. Behind the peacock, a network of tree branches full of green leaves fills the backdrop, all bathed in warm sunlight streaming from the upper right. The backdrop is filled with many other tree branches with green leaves illuminated by the sunlight coming from the top-right.
An Indian peacock perches on the edge of a very thick tree stump with a hole in the middle. The view of the peacock is from the back. Its tail feathers are green with blue eyes at the ends. The train of tail feathers is very long cascading from the top middle to bottom left. The crest of the peacock has deep-blue tips tips and white stems. The head, the neck, and the underparts are also blue. The backdrop is a fence in the back with a ground filled with yellowish dry leaves.
Today's #BirdOfTheDay theme is all about #Reflections and the Alternative is #LongTails.
I am going with the latter.
The first photo of a #leucistic peacock is a repost. Both photos were taken at the Fountain of Youth Archaeological Park, St. Augustine, Florida in 2009.
