I'm always impressed by the messiness of organizational psych topics. Economic stress is a mess. Social support is a big mess. Social cohesion is a shit show.
I love psychology.

This week, I attended a lab meeting where we discussed the need for AI contribution statements for academic writing. (Albada & Woods, 2024)
This is fraught. While most people are talking about plagiarism and losing the ability to write without using AI, the real discussion is happening […]
I mean, he's not wrong.

"Participants responded to three workplace dilemmas we developed (see Appendix). The firing dilemma described a situation where firing a good and loyal employee would save jobs for a whole team. The parking dilemma involved denying a single mom special access to a needed parking pass to prevent erosion of a consistent and fair performance-based parking rule applying to all employees. The angry client dilemma entailed unfairly blaming performance problems on a junior employee to keep a lucrative contract with a volatile client. Thus, each dilemma pitted the well-being of one person against the overall outcomes for a whole team or organization."
Figure 1. Target Warmth and Competence Ratings When Targets Rejected or Accepted Causing Sacrificial Harm in Conventional or Workplace Sacrificial Dilemmas, Study 1.
Figure 2. Target Warmth and Competence Ratings When High- and Low-Authority Role Targets Rejected or Accepted Sacrificial Harm, Study 2.
Figure 6a. Target Warmth and Competence Depending on Dilemma Decision and Explanation, Study 5.
How is #leadership judged for organizational sacrifice?
In preregistered experiments (N > 2k), sacrificing an employee's #wellbeing for the sake of the team/organization was deemed much less moral and warm, but not much less competent.

Psychological safety isn't a feel-good HR concept, it's a financial strategy. Companies with engaged employees (driven by psychological safety) see 21% higher profitability and 41% lower absenteeism.
It's the #1 factor in high-performing teams.

Scrum won’t fix a toxic culture. Kanban can’t patch over poor leadership. Jira tickets don’t generate trust. People first. Tools second. #Agile #Scrum #OrgPsych
Psychological safety isn’t a buzzword. It’s the difference between: “I spotted a risk” vs. “I'll stay quiet”. Agile dies without the first one. #Agile #Scrum #OrgPsych
In Agile, flow matters. In org psych, motivation drives flow. No motivation, therefore no flow. Protect purpose, trust, and meaning if you want real progress. #Agile #Scrum #OrgPsych
Agile = adaptability. Org psych = understanding resistance. Combine both & you design change that sticks, because you understand people resist for good reasons. #Agile #Scrum #OrgPsych
Agile isn’t just standups and sprints.
It’s psychological safety, trust, and shared purpose.
Without these, you’re just moving faster in circles.

A dark wooden writing desk lit by soft candlelight. A black coffee mug sits next to a stack of worn books and an open journal. The image is warm and reflective, with the words “Welcome to the Conversation – Why this space exists, and what I hope it becomes” overlayed in elegant white serif text.
Orange Frames explores leadership, learning, and self-worth through a more human lens. Essays, reflections, and quiet resistance - for those still asking better questions.

I come from L&D. As of late I’ve been poking areas like #OrgPsych and #OD with a stick. What seems to fall out of each is HR and more L&D. What am I missing here?
"We can't produce a game without crunch" is a bit like "we can't finish a PhD without burnout". There are lots of bridges to draw between those two, and plenty of similarities in harmful beliefs to highlight.

Create Flow Future-Fit Leadership Model©️
Our Future-Fit leadership model has safety and capacity as core principles. We see capacity deficit seriously impeding growth and development, let alone performance and wellbeing etc. I’m interested in whether anyone in the #orgpsych #iopsych community has been researching this specifically?
This also supports the trend of bringing teams together in person at least semi-regularly: the connections created during intensive onsites can probably be sustained through virtual interactions.
