Opened in 1994, the Adventure Canyon Log Flume at Buffalo Bill’s was the world’s first log flume in a casino.
The Adventure Canyon Log Flume featured a thrilling 35-foot drop and interactive electronic guns for shooting at Old West-themed animatronic targets, some spraying water back, immersing riders in a wild, unforgettable frontier adventure.
The log flume was a standout attraction at Buffalo Bill’s Resort & Casino, designed to capitalize on the family-friendly vibe that Primm aimed to cultivate in the 1990s to compete with nearby Las Vegas and emerging Native American casinos. Developed under Gary Primm, the resort was part of the Primm Valley Resorts, which also included Whiskey Pete’s and Primm Valley Resort. The log flume, unique for weaving through the casino’s interior, featured a 35-foot drop, a dark tunnel, and an innovative interactive element: electronic guns mounted on the log-shaped boats. Guests could shoot at animatronic targets, styled with Old West motifs like “Wanted” posters and tombstones, which sometimes sprayed water back, adding a playful, competitive twist. This made it the first log flume of its kind globally, blending amusement park thrills with casino entertainment.
By the mid-2000s, maintenance costs led to the removal of the electronic guns, and the animatronics became static. The ride’s operation became inconsistent, often running only on weekends or shutting down for weeks without notice. By 2019, the log flume ceased operation, and Buffalo Bill’s closed in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Buffalo Bill’s reopened in December 2022, following renovations including new slot machines and restaurant upgrades, though the Adventure Canyon Log Flume remained closed.
Despite its closure, the log flume remains a cherished piece of Primm’s history, reflecting a time when the town thrived as a quirky stopover for travelers.
