Cleaning an old bill from ink. This old Finnish 5 mark bill was among other things damage by ink; possibly put there by my grandmother's grandfather even possibly in 1910s. I also have these bills in good condition so I decided to give it a try. #PaperConservation #History

Making Isinglass in our paper conservation studio. Isinglass is used to consolidate parchment.
Parchment is made from treated animal skins, which is why the consolidant used is different to those more commonly used in our Paper studio for works on paper.

I am very comfortable at handling paper, having painted with aquarelles ~20 years. So I decided to use my experience to fix my grandmother's grandfather's match box cover collection. I cleaned it, and moved it to a heavy acid free cotton paper. #History #ConservingHistory #Art #PaperConservation
