The Trunk Nebula. ~3,000 light years

New IC1396 processing (7 hours total exposure)
I reworked the Trunk using MAS (MultiscaleAdaptiveStretch) for the stretch... this new tool is very powerful indeed. I was able to recover quite a bit of detail and bring out more depth in the image. #Pixinsight #MAS 🔭

After 4 years, I've gone back to re-image M81 - Bode's Galaxy. What a difference!

Same telescope, same mount, same camera. Just more experience with image processing in #PixInsight

Just over 4.5 hours of 10 second images of the galaxy cluster Abell 1185 in Ursa Major resulted in many more tiny galaxies in the photo than I expected. All images taken with a #SeeStar S50 and processed with #AstroPixelProcessor and #PixInsight.

The night sky with the constellation Cassiopeia going from top to bottom. Very faintly, the northern Milky Way goes through the constellation. This is a stack of 21 images with 8 darks. The are 30 second images at an ISO of 3200 f/4 Nikon Z5 with a Sigma 105 mm lens. Traced with a MoveShootMove Nomad. It is processed in PixInsight.

A view of most of the constellation of Taurus. The v of the Hyades is on the left with red Aldebaran farthest left. The Pleiades are on the right.

The image was a stack of 50 30 second images with a Nikon Z5 at f/4 3200 ISO using a Sigma 105mm lens. The images were tracked with a MoveShootMove Nomad and processed in PixInsight, GraXpert and DarkTable.

New processing on #Horsehead, I tried to play with the colours of the Flame Nebula (IC2024). It's not perfect yet and I lost some signal, so I'll try a new processing...

Frame Selection in WBPP! 🚀 Photographer of the sea and sky, occasionally the land.

PixInsight just added a new step for rejecting frames during the stacking process! My current intake process will filter out obvious things like clouds, but Frame Selection exposed a potential issue with my frames shot during the full moon. Sweet!

Photo of the Pacman Nebula (NGC281). This is a wide-field astrophotography image of a glowing emission nebula floating in a dense star field. At the center is a bright, bluish-white core surrounded by soft clouds of gold, amber, and faint red gas, with dark, jagged dust lanes cutting through the light like silhouettes.

Just post this new image and detail of the Pacman Nebula (NGC281) on my astro blog! I had a fun time processing this breaking out the Ha and OIII with DBXtract in #PixInsight.

I reprocessed the image with PixInsight, which I do not know as well as I would like to, and Graxpert. Pushing the stretch and contrast and cleaning up in Photoshop Elements allowed me to pull out the Horsehead Nebula and more detail I the other Nebula in the region.

This was my first attempt at post processing the stack of about 30 images at 30 seconds, ISO 3200. I was pleased with the resolution of the Orion Nebula but a bit disappointed with not seeing the much fainter horsehead Nebula which is near the left hand star in Orion's belt.
