The UK votes on a constituency by constituency basis; the 'national vote means NOTHING.
Too many MPs are elected with NO majority - some with as little as 35% of the vote (in the constituency).
THIS is the TRUE democratic deficit.

For further a quick (rough) national breakdown of results:
Liberals 43% vote = 49% seats
Conservatives 41.3% vote = 41% seats
Bloc 6% vote = 6% seats
NDP 6% votes = 2% of seats
Greens 1% vote = 1 seat (0.2% of seats)
At least for 3 parties, the seats disproportionate to the vote.
