the one I've kept safe under cardboard and plastic for so long
to retain the You that lingers in it
I breathed you in,
remembered the last time I did,
why
and how
it ended up that I didn't get it.
I sobbed.
then panicked
because
your scent is fading--
and it will never be refreshed.

before I barred myself
from all doors that led near you
I saw
you wore
a t-shirt
I haven't seen much
since I was there
and put it on myself
beside you
it must not ache much.
to you it must not be
connected to me at all...
