Entrance to Kiwi Park in Queenstown. The entrance is a tunnel that leads down to the main entrance of the park.
A taxidermised Kiwi, used as part of the bird show in the park. The bird is light brown and a bald head due to constant handling by people. In front of the Kiwi is its egg, a huge egg about one third the size of its body. My hand is in front for scale, showing the egg to be much larger than a chicken egg.
A Wood Pigeon or Kererū, part of the bird show at the park. It is perched on a stand held aloft by the presenter. The bird has a blue-green head, neck, and wings. The underparts are white.
Last stop on the New Zealand trip was Kiwi Park, 2 Jan 2026. We saw the remarkable Kiwi bird, and other native birds like the Kererū (Hemiphaga novaeseelandiae).
A taxidermised Kiwi was on display, shown here with its huge egg, and my hand for scale.
