Looking from a rooftop lookout, over walls of brick. In the middle is a long narrow open area divided by a street. The far half is grassed, and bordered on this side by columns and on the other by a low wall that opens into another open area that was the basilica but is now random bits of masonry and broken columns. On this side of the street, the area is gravelled. It is also edged by columns, bt many of them are broken off near ground level. At the end is a large wall with a diagonal rail running up to a flat area at the top (the capitolium). There are many trees, mostly tall & flat topped, along the edges of the areas and along the street.
Ostia Antica.Ostia was the port city for the ancient city of Rome.
This shows the forum, with the capitolium on the right and basilica (nothing to see) over the back/left.

A wall of three windows without their glass in the ruined monastery of San Galgano, near Siena, Italy. The monastery has also lost its roof. I've taken some liberty with colour, as the windows are in a blue stone wall, with various shades of cobalt, turquoise and light blue. In the golden light of an early evening beneath a pale gray blue sky, we are standing in front of partially excavated ancient native American pueblo ruins built of adobe bricks. The semiarid plain beyond is covered with pale gold grasses with occasional green leafy shrubs and a few trees. Numerous rocks and small boulders are visible where the grass does not grow. Small grassy ridges and hills rise in the background. Above and beyond them a range of loftier snowcapped mountains towers in the distance.
